In a bid to streamline the admission process for Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) and Five-Year Integrated Masters Programme (FYIMP) in all Higher Education Institutes of Assam, Govt. of Assam had launched a common online admission portal called SAMARTH with effective from the academic session 2023 – 2024. SAMARTH Admission Portal facilitates the admission process for FYUGP and FYIMP courses across all Government, Private, Provincialized, PDUAM, Government Model Colleges and State Universities in Assam.
"Samarth" is an initiative by the Ministry of Education started in 2019, under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology NMEICT-II (now NMEICT-III), with an aim to enable the universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) through a digital framework for planning, management, delivery, and monitoring of services for students, staff, and other stakeholders. Under the project, the HEIs are provided with a fully managed, cloud based, comprehensive ERP that is custom built for HEIs of the country.

The students aspiring to take admissions in all the government and aided colleges of Assam and universities can now use this integrated admission platform called Assam State Higher Education Admission Portal to get admitted in the desired course and institution. Students would now not have to move from place to place for submitting admission forms.
Further, the students registering themselves in the portal can apply in ten colleges of his/ her choice. The admission would be given in the college and course of the choice of the student on the basis of merit. Apart from being convenient the portal would also save the money of the students.

Assam Government Fee Waiver Scheme
To provide access to the poor students of the State and to help them achieve the benefits of Higher Education, Govt. of Assam has introduced a novel scheme of getting admission through tuition fee waiver. The Scheme will be applicable to the students seeking admission into 1st Year of H.S./B.A./B.Sc./B.Com and M.A./M.Sc/M.Com courses.
The Govt. of Assam Fee waiver scheme is to be linked to SAMARTH portal. As such all the deserving students can avail fee waiver only when the students apply through the SAMARTH platform.
How to Apply for Assam College Admission ?
So, starting from 2023 – 2024 academic session, Govt. of Assam has abolished the old admission process for UG admission. All the students who have passed Higher Secondary final examination now have to apply online through Samarth Portal for Bachelor Degree courses.Once, online application process is over, students can take admission in his college of choice as per merit list. The admission process is divided into two steps:
Step 1: Students are required to register and complete their profiles starting from 11th April 2026, 04:00 PM onwards.
Step 2: After Class 12th results are declared, students will select their preferred institutions and programs. (Step 1 will remain open even after commencement of Step 2)
