The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) released the CRP PO/MT-XVI notification on 30 June 2026 for the recruitment of Probationary Officers and Management Trainees in Participating Public Sector Banks. A total of 6,715 vacancies have been announced for this cycle, around 1,500 more than last year. Eligible candidates can apply online from 1 July 2026 to 21 July 2026 through the official IBPS website.
This is the 16th edition of the IBPS PO exam, conducted every year since 2011. Selection happens over three stages: Preliminary Exam, Main Exam, and Interview. Candidates who clear all three get provisionally allotted to one of the 11 participating banks based on merit and bank preference. Selection Process of IBPS PO Recruitment 2026:
The Preliminary Exam is a qualifying round with three sections and 100 questions for 100 marks, split into 20-minute sectional slots. Each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, and candidates need to clear both the sectional and overall cut-off to move ahead. Marks scored here are not counted towards the final merit list.
The Main Exam carries more weight this year. IBPS has revised the pattern to 170 questions for 200 marks in the objective paper, with marks shifted from Quantitative Aptitude to Reasoning Ability compared to previous cycles. A separate Descriptive Paper of 25 marks tests English writing through an essay and letter. Only candidates who clear the objective cut-off get their descriptive paper evaluated.
Candidates who qualify the Main Exam appear for a Personality Test followed by a face-to-face Interview worth 100 marks. The minimum qualifying mark is 40% for General category candidates and 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates. The final merit list combines Main Exam and Interview scores in an 80:20 ratio.
