Eligibility Criteria of Assam Police Recruitment

Citizenship and Residency:

Applicants must be citizens of India and permanent residents of Assam. The selected applicants will have to submit proof of residence after publication of the final merit list. However, applicants belonging to SC, ST, and OBC/MOBC categories are exempted from submitting such certificates.

Employment Exchange Registration:

All applicants must be registered with an Employment Exchange located in Assam.

Language Proficiency:

Applicants must speak Assamese or any other state language fluently.

Education Qualification of Assam Police Recruitment

Constable (UB):

Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary (Class XII) from a government-recognized Board or Council.

Constable (AB):

Candidates must have passed HSLC or Class X from a government-recognized Board or Council.

Driver Constable and Driver Posts:

Candidates must have passed HSLC or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or Council. Additionally, they must possess a valid driving licence for LMV, MMV, or HMV as per the specific post requirements. For Fire & Emergency Services driver posts, an HMV driving licence is mandatory.

Sub Inspector (UB) and Assistant Jailor:

Candidates must be graduates in Arts, Science, Commerce, or equivalent stream from a recognized college or institution affiliated to a recognized university.

Station Officer and Squad Commander:

Candidates must have a B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized college or institution affiliated to a recognized university.

Sub Inspector of Police (Communication):

Candidates must have a B.Sc. in Electronics Science, IT, or Computer Science, or a 3-year Diploma from State Polytechnic in relevant fields with required work experience or additional courses, or MCA, or B.E./B.Tech in E&TC, Computer, Instrumentation, IT, or equivalent qualification.

Sub Inspector (AB) in Commando Battalions:

Candidates must be graduates in Arts, Science, Commerce, or equivalent stream from a recognized college or institution affiliated to a recognized university.

Constable (AB) in Commando Battalions:

Candidates must have passed HSLC or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or Council.

Safai Karmachari:

Minimum Class VI passed from a recognized school or institution. The maximum qualification allowed is HSSLC or Class XII passed from a recognized Board or Council.

Age Limit of Assam Police Recruitment 2026

Constable (UB & AB):

Candidates’ age must be between 18 and 25 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2001 and not later than 1 January 2008).

Driver Constable, Constable, Driver and Driver Opertor in F&ES, and Driver Constable in Forest Department:

Candidates’ age must be between 18 and 25 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2001 and not later than 1 January 2008).

Driver in Forest Department:

Candidates’ age must be between 18–40 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 1986 and not later than 1 January 2008).

Sub Inspector (UB) and Sub Inspector of Police (Communication):

Candidates’ age must be between 20–26 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2000 and not later than 1 January 2006).

Sub-Officer, Station Officer and Squad Commander:

Candidates’ age must be between 20 and 24 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2002 and not later than 1 January 2006).

Assistant Jailor:

Candidates’ age must be between 21 and 40 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 1986 and not later than 1 January 2005).

Sub Inspector (AB) in Commando Battalions:

Candidates’ age must be between 20–24 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2002 and not later than 1 January 2006).

Constable (AB) in Commando Battalions:

Candidates’ age must be between 18 and 21 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 2005 and not later than 1 January 2008).

Safai Karmachari:

Candidates’ age must be between 18 and 40 years as on 1 January 2026 (born not before 1 January 1986 and not later than 1 January 2008).

Age Relaxation:

The upper age limit relaxation of 5 years is provided for SC, ST (P), and ST (H) category candidates. The OBC/MOBC category candidates get 3 years of age relaxation. Additional relaxations are provided for trained Home Guards with 3 years of service (additional 3 years), Ex-Servicemen (additional 2 years for specific posts), Former Members of Militant Organizations (additional 10 years), SPOs (additional 10 years), and National/ International sports persons (additional 3 years) as per the specific post requirements.

Physical Standard for Assam Police Recruitment

Candidates must meet the following minimum physical standards to be eligible for the recruitment:

Medical Standards:

Applicants must be in good mental and bodily health. They must be free from any physical deformities and diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hernia, piles, respiratory diseases, knock-knee, flat foot, or any other physical deformity that is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties. Applicants should not be colour blind or squint-eyed. The distance vision should be 6/6 for at least one eye and not poorer than 6/9 for the other without correction. Near vision should be normal. Varicose veins shall be considered a temporary disqualification. For Safai Karmachari posts, weight should be proportionate to height and age as per medical standards.

Selection Process of Assam Police Constable:

The selection process for Assam Police Constable recruitment will consist of the following phases:

Physical Efficiency Test (PET):

This test carries 40 marks for Constable (UB) and Female candidates of Constable (AB), and 60 marks for Male candidates of Constable (AB). It includes a race (3200m for males, 1600m for females) and Long Jump. Male candidates for Constable (AB) also have a Chin Up test.

Physical Standard Test (PST):

After qualifying in the medical test, candidates will undergo PST where height and chest measurements will be taken. This carries no marks.

Written Test:

Shortlisted candidates from PET will appear for a Written Test. The test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions equivalent to class IX and X levels. Each correct answer awards 0.5 marks, making the total marks 50. There is no negative marking.

Oral/Viva Voce:

Qualified candidates will be called for an Oral/Viva-Voce which carries 5 marks.
